Crisafulli Government celebrates Southern Downs volunteer firefighters during RFSQ Week
· The Crisafulli Government is delivering for Queensland with a new $340,000 Medium Attack fire truck for the Eukey Rural Fire Brigade during RFSQ Week.
· Southern Downs volunteer firefighters have been recognised for their outstanding service and commitment to protecting local communities.
· The Crisafulli Government is backing volunteers with new vehicles, new brigade infrastructure and practical support to strengthen frontline emergency response.
RFSQ Week recognises the dedication of more than 27,000 volunteers who help prepare, protect and support communities across Queensland.
The Crisafulli Government is celebrating the contribution of volunteer firefighters across the Southern Downs during Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ) Week, with a special event in Dalveen.
After Labor allowed volunteer numbers to decline and failed to properly invest in frontline emergency services, the Crisafulli Government is backing volunteers with practical support.
Alongside delivering new firefighting vehicles, the 2026-27 State Budget invests in new Rural Fire Brigade stations, including Bennett RFB, as well as replacement trucks, operational equipment and facility upgrades to strengthen emergency response capability across Queensland.
As part of the celebrations, the Eukey Rural Fire Brigade received a new $340,000 Isuzu Medium Attack appliance, boosting the brigade’s capability ahead of the higher-risk bushfire season.
The new vehicle is equipped with high and low-pressure pumps for operational flexibility and a deluge system for crew protection, helping volunteers respond safely and effectively to bushfires and other emergencies.
The event also recognised exceptional volunteer service, with Queensland Fire Emergency Response COVID-19 Clasps and Commissioner’s Commendations presented to volunteers for their contributions during significant emergency events, including the 2019 Townsville floods.
Minister for Fire, Disaster Recovery and Volunteers Ann Leahy said RFSQ Week was an opportunity to recognise the extraordinary contribution volunteer firefighters make to communities across Queensland.
“Whether it is responding to bushfires, assisting communities during disasters or carrying out vital mitigation work, our volunteers are always there when Queenslanders need them most,” Minister Leahy said.
“The Crisafulli Government is delivering for Queensland by backing these volunteers with modern vehicles, improved infrastructure and the resources they need to continue protecting their communities.”
Member for Southern Downs James Lister said the new appliance would be a valuable addition for local firefighters and strengthen emergency response capability across the district.
“The Eukey brigade plays a vital role in protecting local communities, and this new Medium Attack appliance will provide volunteers with enhanced capability and improved safety when responding to emergencies,” Mr Lister said.
“The Crisafulli Government is delivering for Queensland by investing in the equipment, infrastructure and support our volunteer firefighters need to keep Southern Downs communities safe.”
RFSQ Chief Officer Kaylene Jones praised the extraordinary efforts of the 27,000 RFSQ volunteers who dedicate their time to protecting Queensland communities, both on the front line and behind the scenes.
“Our RFSQ volunteers are truly remarkable individuals who selflessly give their time to help others in need,” Chief Officer Jones said.
“They don’t seek recognition, but it’s vital that we acknowledge their incredible service and express our heartfelt gratitude for everything they do to keep our communities safe.”
RFSQ South Western Region Deputy Chief Officer Matthew Inwood acknowledged the significant contributions volunteers in southern Queensland and thanked brigades for their ongoing efforts in preparing communities for bushfires.
“It is important to pause and reflect on the impact rural firefighters have had in their communities, both while responding to incidents and while giving up their time to mitigate bushfire risk,” Deputy Chief Officer Inwood said.
“The Queensland Fire Emergency Response Medal COVID-19 Clasp and Commissioners Commendation recognises exceptional support provided in response to disaster or emergency events in Queensland.
“As we approach a more active bushfire period this year, our volunteer firefighters have been demonstrating the selflessness and work ethic the RFSQ is known for.”
